Back Success Story: A supply chain project together with a start-up

Mikks is a Zurich-based start-up. What was once nothing but a flash of inspiration in the kitchen is now established and ready to take the next step. Manuel, Fabian, and Philipp: the founders of Mikks are only about thirty years old and started Mikks roughly four years ago. Back then, the mixologists were working from their kitchen at home, but soon become a fixture in the Swiss gastronomy scene. Pop the Mikks in the shaker, add the spirit and ice, give it a good shake and, voilà, your cocktail is ready. The same simple principle applies to spritzers (though obviously without shaking) and virgin cocktails. The recipes are printed on the bottle and the matching shaker is provided. Welcome to the bar in the comfort of your home!

Sucess Story: A Supply Chain project together with the Start-up Mikks from Zurich

Originally, the principal customers for the products were in the catering industry, but the COVID-19 crisis with restaurant and pub closures forced Mikks to come up with a new solution to keep their sales up and avoid losses.

The development

Thanks to the company’s agility and creativity, it quickly managed to come up with a new business concept in the first Swiss lockdown. The solution: the cocktail delivery service ‘cheerstosupport’. This saw Mikks supporting pubs in Zurich that had been forced to close by providing the option of having cocktails, mocktails, and other products delivered straight to the guests’ homes by courier.

When the second wave forced another lockdown, Mikks developed cocktail sets for home delivery. People could stay in touch a little more despite so much of their lives going digital. It is a concept that companies can also make use of as a means of getting closer to their employees again by organising virtual cocktail events.

The web shop has been expanded to cover Germany, the Netherlands, and Denmark in addition to Switzerland. For 2022, the company intends to expand into Austria, France, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Ireland, Sweden, and Finland.

Kuehne+Nagel Switzerland is Mikks’ reliable partner. Our Supply Chain Design & Consulting team is currently working with Mikks to develop the concept for the future supply chain to the EU to ensure that it is targeted, flexible, and transparent from the start.

As part of the network study, the flows of goods and information are being analysed and the advantages and risks of possible supply chain scenarios simulated. Taking into account Mikks’ expansion strategy, the results of the study form a sound decision-making basis for building the future network – based on supply chain expertise and operational excellence.

An emphasis on partnership

We at Kuehne+Nagel in Switzerland have also already ordered sets from Mikks as a way of giving our employees a little treat for anniversaries or special events in the form of a cocktail set.
